Donor & Project Audit
Show funders how grant money was used and address the reporting and compliance requirements in the funding agreement.
What the engagement covers
We work with grant recipients and implementing partners on audits of individual projects, programmes or awards. The scope starts with the grant agreement, approved budget, reporting format and donor instructions, which determine the period, entities and financial information to examine.
How we can help
Fieldwork focuses on how expenditure was incurred, approved, recorded and reported across the activities and partners covered by the engagement.
- Reconcile the financial report. Tie the project report to the ledger, grant receipts and bank records, and explain significant differences in opening or closing balances.
- Test the use of grant funds. Trace selected costs to invoices, procurement records, payroll allocations and approvals. Check budget classification, eligibility and timing against the agreed criteria.
- Review partners and assets where in scope. Examine advances, subgrantee reports, project assets and supporting evidence, and discuss exceptions with the finance and programme teams.
What you receive
The audit report or other report specified in the engagement terms, with expenditure exceptions and significant control findings identified separately where applicable.
What to share with our team
Share the terms of reference, award, budget, reporting period and deadline, and any partners or sites to cover.
