ESG Specialist

Lead our ESG and sustainability advisory practice and help clients build reliable reporting and practical implementation plans.

About the role

You will lead ESG and sustainability advisory at MSM Chris, shaping the firm’s offering and overseeing delivery across client engagements. You will advise leadership, finance and operations teams on material sustainability issues, credible reporting and practical implementation. The role combines practice leadership with hands-on technical work, from scoping assignments and reviewing the evidence to presenting recommendations to decision-makers.

What you’ll do

Practice leadership and engagement quality

  • Shape the firm’s ESG advisory offering and develop practical methodologies, templates and quality review standards.
  • Scope new assignments, lead client engagements and review the work of colleagues and specialists involved in delivery.

Materiality and engagement

  • Plan interviews and workshops, gather input from relevant teams and document how issues were prioritised. Distinguish stakeholder concerns from operational risks and gaps in available data.

Metrics and evidence

  • Define the scope, source and owner of each metric. Test selected data for completeness and consistency, and document assumptions, exclusions and collection gaps.
  • Design practical templates and review checks so teams can collect comparable information across reporting periods.

Reporting and implementation

  • Map available evidence to the applicable reporting framework and draft disclosures in language clients can review and support.
  • Translate gaps into a prioritised action plan with proposed owners and milestones. Explain where stronger controls or clearer responsibilities would improve future reporting.

What you’ll bring

  • Sustainability experience. Experience leading ESG or sustainability advisory assignments, with responsibility for technical judgement, delivery quality and senior client relationships.
  • Technical judgement. Familiarity with frameworks such as GRI or IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and the ability to explain how they apply to an assignment.
  • Evidence and facilitation. Ability to review source data, facilitate discussions and explain findings to technical and non-technical audiences.

Useful experience. Experience with greenhouse gas inventories, sustainability data controls or cross-sector stakeholder engagement would be useful.

What success looks like

Clients can trace key disclosures to their source and assign realistic actions for the next reporting cycle. The firm has a consistent method for scoping, delivering and reviewing ESG engagements.
