About the role
You will support clients that outsource bookkeeping, payroll and recurring finance work. Your role is to keep records current, prepare payroll and reporting schedules for review and identify items that could delay an accurate month-end close.
What you’ll do
Bookkeeping and reconciliations
- Post and classify transactions using supporting documents. Reconcile bank and control accounts, investigate unmatched entries and follow up with the client for missing records.
Payroll preparation and review
- Check starter, leaver and pay-change information against approved records. Prepare payroll inputs and reconcile the draft register to the agreed source data.
- Document adjustments and discrepancies for review before payroll is approved. Handle employee and salary information confidentially throughout the process.
Month-end reporting and client support
- Prepare supporting schedules and variance explanations for recurring reports. Track cut-off items, outstanding reconciliations and information needed for close.
- Maintain clear working papers and update clients on the items they need to provide or approve. Flag repeated delays or control gaps to the engagement lead.
What you’ll bring
- Bookkeeping and systems. Training in accounting or finance, with practical experience in Excel and an accounting package.
- Payroll and reconciliation skills. Understanding of basic payroll controls and the ability to explain differences between payroll inputs, the register and accounting records.
- Reliability and confidentiality. Ability to manage recurring deadlines, keep an audit trail and work carefully with employee and client information.
Useful experience. Exposure to Kenyan payroll, client bookkeeping or outsourced finance assignments would be useful.
What success looks like
Accounts reconcile to supporting records, payroll changes can be traced to approvals and clients understand the items that could affect month-end reporting.
