About the role
You will support statutory and selected donor-funded audits under the supervision of an audit senior. Your work helps the engagement team connect identified risks to testing, evaluate evidence and explain what the results mean for the engagement.
What you’ll do
Planning and understanding the client
- Review the trial balance, prior-year file and available process documentation. Help identify changes that affect audit risk and prepare requests for the evidence needed.
Fieldwork and testing
- Prepare lead schedules and reconciliations. Test selected transactions, balances and controls against the audit programme and cross-reference the evidence.
- Follow up outstanding records and confirmations. Document exceptions and discuss their potential implications with the audit senior before concluding.
File quality and reporting
- Complete working papers with a clear objective, procedure, evidence and conclusion. Resolve review notes promptly and keep the open-items list up to date.
- Help draft findings that explain the condition observed, the evidence behind it and the practical consequence for the client or project.
What you’ll bring
- Accounting foundations. Training in accounting, finance or a related field. Progress toward CPA or ACCA is welcome.
- Analytical skills. Comfort with Excel, reconciliations and financial statements. Ability to identify inconsistencies and trace them back to supporting evidence.
- Professional judgement. Care with confidential information, willingness to ask questions and the ability to distinguish an open query from a supported finding.
Useful experience. Exposure to audit working papers, accounting systems or donor-funded engagements would be helpful.
What success looks like
The reviewer can follow your testing from the risk through to the evidence and conclusion, and the team can see which issues still need a decision.
