Tax Associate

Reconcile client tax records, prepare filing schedules and research questions across corporate tax, VAT and withholding tax.

About the role

You will turn client records into reconciled tax schedules, draft filings and clear responses to tax queries. The work spans Kenyan businesses and other organisations with different reporting systems and deadlines. You will work under a reviewer, flag technical questions early and maintain a record that shows how each figure was reached.

What you’ll do

Tax compliance and reconciliations

  • Tie VAT, withholding tax and corporate income tax schedules to the ledger, invoices and prior returns. Investigate differences such as timing, classification or missing support, and record what needs client confirmation.
  • Prepare draft filings and supporting schedules for review. Track filing and payment deadlines, approvals, and any evidence that must be retained.

Technical research and client queries

  • Read the relevant legislation and published KRA guidance for assigned questions. Summarise the facts, applicable rules and points that need a reviewer’s decision.
  • Support responses to KRA queries by assembling correspondence, return extracts and transaction evidence. Keep a record of what was requested, supplied and still outstanding.

Engagement delivery

  • Maintain clear working papers and share concise progress updates. Tell the reviewer when information is missing or an issue could affect the timetable.

What you’ll bring

  • Accounting and tax fundamentals. Training in accounting, finance, economics or a related field. Progress toward CPA or ACCA is welcome.
  • Reconciliation skills. Comfort working with ledgers and Excel, and explaining the cause and possible effect of a variance.
  • Communication and care. Ability to write a short, well-referenced explanation and handle client records confidentially.

Useful experience. Exposure to Kenyan tax compliance, iTax or preparation of VAT and withholding tax schedules will help you settle in.

What success looks like

A reviewer can reproduce your schedules, understand open issues and see what needs action before a filing or response goes out.
